Scottish player Pierre Schumann has signed a new contract with Edinburgh until 2028.
The 30-year-old free agent has made more than a century of appearances since joining the capital club in 2018 and has cemented himself in Gregor Townsend's Scotland side after making his debut in 2021.
He now has 37 caps for his country, having qualified on the basis of residency, and is widely expected to be called up to the British and Irish Lions next summer.
Shuman joins fellow Scottish international Duhan van der Merwe in signing a new contract in Edinburgh amid interest from abroad.
“I am truly honored to stay for at least three more years,” the South African-born Schumann told club media.
“My wife Charissa and I have loved every minute of our time here in Scotland, and this is our home now.
“Our lives here – it was an easy decision to re-sign with a club that means a lot to me. There were other clubs interested, but I have unfinished business here.
“I look around the changing room and see there is a lot of talent. We are a family here and I really couldn't be happier to have signed again.”
Head coach Sean Everett praised the retention of “fan favorite” Shuman, calling it “great news.”
He added: “He has developed into a world-class mainstay and is a great example for all our young players because Pierre never gives less than 100% – he is fully committed to improving himself and others around him every day.”
