Steve Smith pulled off a remarkable feat on Thursday during the Boxing Day Test against India at the MCG, as he scored his 42nd Test half-century. With this achievement, Smith joins an elite group of cricket icons, including Don Bradman, Greg Chappell and Ricky Ponting, as players who have achieved 10 or more fifty-plus scores in Tests at the famous venue.
This latest performance marked Smith's 50th score at the MCG in just 12 Test appearances. Chappell tops the chart with 13 scores in 17 Tests, followed by Bradman with 12 in 11 Tests and Ponting with 11 in 15 Tests.
Smith remained unbeaten on 68 at the end of the first day, a knock that included five fours and a six. He reached his half-century off 71 balls during the final session, helping Australia finish the day strongly at 311/6 in 86 overs.
