Subril Matias and Elvis Rodriguez could reportedly compete for the top spot in the International Boxing Federation's lightweight rankings.

“The Dominican Kid” Rodriguez (17-1-1, 13) is ranked No. 7 by the IBF at 140 and has won his last six fights since losing to Kenneth Simms Jr. by eight-round majority decision on May 22, 2021.

Mathias, 32, lost his IBF title to Liam Barrow last year on June 15, being roughed up in a fight that was loosely ruled by the referee. Barrow got away with a lot of harsh tactics that should have resulted in a caution and points deduction in that fight.

Richardson Hitchens now holds the IBF light welterweight title after defeating Barrow via a 12-round split decision last month on June 7. So, if the Mathias-Rodriguez fight happens, the winner will face Hitchens for the IBF title.
