Robbie Keane: The former Republic of Ireland striker has been appointed coach of Ferencvaros

Former Ireland striker Robbie Keane has been appointed coach of Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

Kane, the record holder in the number of goals with the Irish national team, left the Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv last June after a year in charge.

The former Tottenham and Liverpool striker led the club to the Israeli Premier League title and the League Cup last season, and also reached the round of 16 in the Europa League.

Kane began his coaching career in 2018 as player-manager of ATK India.

He has since worked as assistant manager for the Irish national team, Middlesbrough and Leeds United.

The 44-year-old coach succeeds Dutch coach Pascal Janssen, who left his position to coach New York City last week.

Ferencvaros ranks second in the Hungarian League and 16th in the European League table.
