Rangers goalkeeper Butland will miss the derby after being admitted to hospital

Rangers have confirmed that goalkeeper and vice-captain Jack Butland will miss Thursday's Old Firm match against Celtic after being admitted to hospital.

It has been revealed that the 31-year-old former Stoke City and Crystal Palace goalkeeper has internal bleeding in his leg that requires medical attention.

Butland has since been released from hospital but will miss Celtic's match at Ibrox.

Captain James Tavernier will also be absent due to injury, while Leon Balogun's right-back Nrayshu Kasanwerjo also appears set to miss the match.

“We will lose Tavernier. He suffered an injury at the end of the match. He underwent a scan and it was found that there was a minor injury and he will be out of action for a few weeks,” coach Philippe Clement said.

Rangers have endured a disappointing season so far. The 55-time Scottish Premiership champions trail leaders Celtic by 14 points, and have failed to win any of their last two matches.

Clement's side have fared slightly better in the Europa League this season, winning three, drawing two and losing one of their six matches to leave them eighth in the 36-team league table.
