Premier League: Tom Willis, Marcus Smith, Oli Hasel-Collins – five talking points

He may not be the best back-row player in his family, but he is clearly the best in the Premier League at the moment.

Tom Willis, whose brother Jacques continues to tear up trees for European champions Toulouse, has been in fine form all season.

View it in Saracens win 35-26 over Bristol It was a tour de force.

He scored two tries, gained 44 meters and beat five defenders from 12 carries, while also making 23 tackles and securing two turnovers.

His first attempt was a hit-and-run from the back of the breakdown. His second goal was from a longer range, which saw him round Noah Heyward and Willem Mata on his way to the corner.

At one point on the defense, Rich picked up Lynn, tucked him under his arm like a beach player and carried the Bears' linebacker casually toward his goal line.

Bristol, who have conceded more points than all but bottom club Newcastle, have a tendency to make the opposition look good.

But Willis' campaign is a serious body of work.

He has beaten more defenders than any other player in the Premier League. He is the only striker in the top ten. He ranks seventh in the number of meters made, without gaining the “easy” number of yards to receive the kick. Once again, he is the only striker in the top ten.

He is Saracens' main striker, third overall in the league, and sixth in the division in terms of turnovers.

His only England cap came as a 54th-minute substitute in a friendly match against Wales in August 2023.

More to come for sure. And soon.
