The spoils were shared in east London on Saturday afternoon, as West Ham and Brighton drew 1-1 in the Premier League.
After breaking cover for Seagull at the Amex Stadium last season, West Ham were still searching for their first-choice player Premier League Victory over Brighton at the London Stadium. They went into Saturday's win better than their visitors, who are winless in four games, and Julen Lopetegui's side started well at home.
The Hammers looked to exploit Brighton's high backline through long balls and turnovers, with Jarrod Bowen, in particular, relishing the space available to him. Bowen made the first save from Bart Verbruggen, who had not been tested much in the opening period.
After a chaotic start, the visitors got into the competition and began choosing hosts in the build-up. Brighton looked a threat out wide and were attracting joy West HamCentral midfielders in areas they don't want to defend. However, the Seagulls proved ineffective in the final third as the first half ended in a scoreless draw.
A fairly normal contest broke out at the start of the second half as the goals arrived at both ends of the pitch. After Mats Wever scored his first goal Brighton Goal to open the scoring Lopetegui's substitutes paid off as Bowen, moved into the midfield position, played past the Seagulls defense and forced Verbruggen into another save. The ball rebounded with a header by Mohammed Quddus.
The Ghanaian's equalizer failed to motivate the hosts, and Lopetegui eventually switched to a 5-4-1 formation in an attempt to regain control without possession. The match then developed into an exciting back-and-forth battle, with both teams, especially Brighton, creating worthy chances to win the competition.
However, no lethal touch arrived as a result of some excellent last-minute defending by the Hammers.
