Chris Dobbie came from two sets down to defeat former champion Gerwyn Price 5-3 and reach his first PDC World Championship semi-final.
Dube, who has lost in the last eight the last two years, withstood a blistering start from Price to win in four sets on the bounce and had five darts to win 5-2.
The Englishman's failure to finish the job brought back memories of his quarter-final defeat to Rob Cross last year, when he squandered a 4-0 lead.
However, the break allowed Dobey to regroup and make sure the collapse was not repeated, sealing the win with a stunning double finish in the 18th minute.
He will meet three-time champion Michael van Gerwen or unseeded Callan Reeds in the quarter-finals.
“To overcome that defeat last year and get over the line this year means a lot,” Dube told Sky Sports.
“I've never been so nervous to win the double as I did today. I'm happy that I did it and got the win.”
Dobey faced that early as 2021 winner Price got off to a blistering start, averaging 103.1 in the first set and then breaking to win the second set 3-1.
However, Dobey responded with an average of 113.19 in the third innings to halve the deficit, and continued to do so as Price began to struggle on the outside ring.
These problems continued throughout the match, with the Welshman missing 41 darts in total, and Dobbie happily taking advantage.
The 34-year-old from Bedlington, Northumberland, started with 180 as he led 4-2, but was suddenly overcome by nerves and left five darts in the match begging, with attempts at double 10 and double four missing the mark by a distance. .
But he showed great resilience in overcoming those mistakes and finishing the job in the next set.
“This exactly reminded me of last year,” Dube added. “I thought, ‘Keep going, you’ll get another chance.’ Fortunately, I finally crossed the line.
“Honestly, I'm very happy. I'm excited to get this win.”
