Tash Wakelin to lead the White Fern
Tash Wakelinan all-rounder from Northern Districts, was appointed captain. Wakelin was the Player of the Year at the Under-19 National Championships in December and previously represented New Zealand at the inaugural Under-19 Women's World Cup in 2023. She is among five players – along with K.Chandler, Louisa Kotkamp, Emma Macleodand Kate Irwin – Return to the second World Cup.

Sarah McGlashanThe NZC High Performance Coach highlighted the importance of representing New Zealand as a career-defining achievement, stressing that the World Cup provides a unique platform for players to showcase their talent on the international stage. She praised the team for its diverse skills, athletic prowess and desire for growth, expressing her confidence in their ability to achieve great success in the future.
“Representing New Zealand is a huge moment in any career, and World Cups are rare opportunities to showcase your skills on the world stage. “This team brings a combination of skill, sportsmanship and a desire to learn, making them a group full of potential for future success.” McGlashan said as quoted by NZC.
Preparation and schedule
The team will participate in a pre-departure camp in Wellington before mustering in Auckland on January 10. They will leave for Malaysia the next day. Before the tournament, New Zealand will play two friendly matches against the USA and West Indies on January 13 and 15 respectively. The team will then compete in Group C, where they will face South Africa, Nigeria and Samoa in the group stage.
