This does not mean that Amorim is apportioning blame.
“The responsibility lies with me, not with Carlos,” he said.
“We are a team with good moments and bad moments. We have a way of doing things. We are working on that and we will work on improving that. But we did not lose because of set pieces. We lost because we created chances.” More chances and he didn't score.”
Speaking to Match of the Day, Martinez put it more bluntly.
“We are very angry about this kind of situation,” the Argentine defender said. “We have to work on set-pieces in particular.
“I believe a lot in this team and the coaching staff. If they don't score their first goal from a free kick it will be a completely different game.”
Amorim is hampered by a lack of quality.
The Portuguese trusted Terrell Malasia in the left-back role, but took the Dutchman off in the first half after seeing him give the ball away too cheaply on numerous occasions and not really offer anything going forward.
Diogo Dalot changed his stance, but his single-goal threat lacked conviction. Noussair Mazraoui moved to left-back from his position in a three-man defence, but was drawn into a rash tackle on Justin Kluivert which allowed the striker to double Bournemouth's lead from the penalty spot.
Furthermore, it was only captain Bruno Fernandes who was a threat in Bournemouth's goal, with Marcus Rashford ruled out for a third successive match, although he was at Old Trafford to witness the unfortunate events.
“It depends, we'll see,” Amorim said when asked if the England striker might feature in the Boxing Day trip to Wolves.
