Luke Williams: West Bromwich links 'behind' Swansea coach

Luke Williams says he has moved on from speculation linking him with West Bromwich Albion, something the Swansea City boss admitted he “handled poorly”.

Bookmakers made Williams the favorite to replace Carlos Corberan at Hawthorn, and after initially failing to quell the rumors in media interviews, Williams eventually confirmed he would stay at Swansea.

Ironically, Swansea hosted West Brom on Saturday, and in his program notes before the 1-1 draw, Swansea chairman Andy Coleman described the speculation as “unhelpful”.

“It's a situation I didn't help. I unintentionally made a lot of noise,” Williams said.

“There has been no contact from West Brom with me, my agent or the football club. There has been no contact at all.

“Actually, my agent was quite ill and was bedridden for most of Christmas, and then he called me and said, 'What have you done? What's going on?'

“I'm glad we got behind us. The players were excellent today. My group certainly seemed unaffected by all the noise.”
