Banbridge overhauled long-time leader Il Est Francais at the final fence to take a dramatic win in the King George VI Chase at Kempton.
Il Est Francais was leading under James Revelli in almost every three-mile Boxing Day show and built a comfortable lead, and with two horses remaining Banbridge was the only horse who looked likely to challenge.
In the end, the leader was less flexible and the 7-1 chance jumped better and raced clear for Paul Townend and trainer Joseph O'Brien.
Il Est Francais (9-2) retained second place, while L'Homme Presse (14-1) took third place for Charlie Deutsch and Venetia Williams.
Earlier, 2023 hurdles champion Constitution Hill made a welcome return to action with a third win in the Christmas Hurdle.
