It wasn't exactly easy, as Hibs had to bounce back from a poor first half to beat Ross County, but subsequent wins away to Aberdeen and Hearts were thoroughly deserved and included some excellent spells.
The Easter Road team has not won three in a row in more than a year.
“We played really well and had very few chances,” Gray said after the 2-1 win at Tynecastle.
“Maybe we could have been a bit more clinical. I thought, in the first half, we were excellent.
He added: “To lead 1-1, after playing as well as we did, especially away from home, the players' reaction could have been really negative after that.”
This may be the biggest difference.
Hibs' players looked somewhat sorry for themselves in those back-to-back defeats in November to St Mirren and Dundee, but they showed a much better attitude to not accept defeat at home to Aberdeen.
Teamwork and determination go a long way in football, and Gray appears to have pushed his team heading in the same direction after a difficult start filled with individual errors and team tension.
“I'm delighted for him,” former Hibs manager John Collins said on Sportsound of the current boss.
“He was getting a lot of support left, right and centre. He was probably one game away from being sacked. All coaches need a little time and patience.”
