Raul Jimenez scored a penalty in extra time to deny Ipswich two successive wins and give Fulham a 2-2 draw, with referee Darren Bond awarding three penalties during the second half.
Liam Delap put Ipswich back in front with a penalty of his own in the 71st minute which was awarded just 21 seconds after Jimenez equalized from 12 yards for the first time following Sammy Smodic's opener for the visitors.
Referee Bond was at the heart of a thrilling afternoon at Craven Cottage, showing Ipswich left-back Leif Davis only a yellow card for his foul on Harry Wilson, who appeared to be bursting through the net in the first half. VAR considered that the defender was not denied a goal scoring opportunity.
The visitors continued to take the lead against the run of play shortly before half-time when Nathan Broadhead's cross from the left flank was hit off the crossbar by Ben Johnson. Calvin Bassey cleared the ball straight to Szmodics and he slotted the ball home from Fulham's centre-back.
Fulham dominated the first half, but Jimenez headed the ball into the net with only a header. Marco Silva introduced Emile Smith Rowe in the first half and glanced a header wide.
Their pressure paid off when Sam Morsy tripped Wilson and Jimenez equalised. However, Ipswich responded immediately through Delap's emphatic penalty after being fouled by Timothy Castagne.
There was more drama to come. Ipswich pushed for a third goal as Jack Clarke hit the left post. Fulham responded, tripping Davies Jimenez in the penalty area to win his third penalty of the afternoon which he curled into the top right corner.
