A rugby league player accused of rape, sexual assault and two counts of assault has fled to his native Papua New Guinea.
Kevin Abo, 25, who played for the Bradford Bulls, was released on conditional bail at 16:00 GMT on November 26, Bradford Magistrates Court heard on Monday.
By 20:40 GMT that evening, Mr Apo had boarded a flight to Dubai from Manchester Airport and subsequently arrived in Papua New Guinea via a connecting flight.
Prosecutor Fiona Newcombe told the court an extradition process was now underway to return Mr Apo to the UK to face the charges.
Mr Apo was scheduled to appear for a court hearing on Monday morning.
Ms Newcombe told the court he gave the keys to his house and car to the rugby club manager.
She said authorities would now work with police in Papua New Guinea to extradite him.
Mr. Apo, of Halifax, He was sacked by Bradford Bulls After he was charged.
The club said in a previous statement that it had “cancelled the playing contract with Kevin Apo.”
Papua New Guinea player Mr Apo played in the 2022 Rugby League World Cup, held in England.
He joined the Bulls as a forward in 2023, before signing a new two-year contract in August last year.
