Bangladesh cricket is facing a major crisis as a growing rift among senior officials threatens to disrupt the work of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Najam Abedin, Director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has publicly criticized the current situation, hinting at a serious fallout with BCB Chairman Farooq Ahmed.
Najam Abedin has openly said that he will step down from his position as director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) unless urgent changes are made. Najm, a respected local coach, was appointed to the CBB alongside Farooq Ahmed after the National Sports Council made changes following the exit of former president Nazm Hassan.
However, Najm Abidin expressed his disappointment with the way things developed, claiming that his time at the Brazilian Central Bank did not meet his expectations. This mounting tension between Najam and Farooq could spell trouble for the future of Bangladesh cricket if it is not resolved soon.
Bangladesh cricket is facing a crisis as senior officials clash over the direction of the BCB
On January 5, Najam Abedin expressed his frustration with the current situation at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), saying that things are not progressing as he had hoped. The board member believes that the general trend is not right, and if it continues like this, he may consider stepping down.
With 40-45 years in cricket, Najm asserted that he knows the changes needed, and expressed his disappointment that they were not implemented. Cricbuzz quoted Najm Abdeen as saying: “I did not see a lot of things going according to my expectations. Overall, the way things should be going, it's not working that way at the moment, and things could have been better. “If it continues like this, I might not like it and might consider exiting the Brazilian central bank.”
If things stay the same, I will definitely lose interest: Najm al-Abidin
He added: “I've been with cricket for 40-45 years, so I don't think I need to think from scratch about what I want to change and what needs to be done. As a coach or as a board member, I know exactly what kind of changes I want to see in certain areas. It's not As if everything I wanted was right and all my desires should be fulfilled but it was painful not to see those things (changes) and if it stayed the same, I would definitely lose interest.
Moreover, Abedin revealed that the rift between him and the Bangladesh Central Bank chief is known in the Bangladesh cricket community and said it should not have happened. He said he was the one who recommended Farock for the position, and introduced him to others as the right choice for the position. Najm stressed that there should not be any disagreements.
Farouk Ahmed denies the dispute with Najm Abdeen
Meanwhile, Central Bank of Bahrain Chairman Farooq Ahmed addressed the dispute with Board Director Najm Abdeen, saying it all happened due to misunderstanding and communication gap. He insisted there was no major conflict. Farouk stressed that, as new managers, he and Najm had to make quick decisions, which may have led to problems.
“There is no conflict,” Farouk told reporters. “Within the organization, there could be some problems, but nothing like this (conflict).” I had to receive her on an emergency basis, and in this case, there could be problems. In communication if anyone has anything to say, they can come to me and we can work it out.
