“I liked what they wore,” Aiava said of Sharapova, Ivanovic and Serena Williams.
“I think some things that are designed are quite ugly. I just like to wear what I think looks good. I don't like to wear the same thing as everyone else.”
Ayava, who wants to pursue a degree in fashion design, will face Belgian Greet Menin in the first round of the Melbourne Grand Slam, which begins on Sunday.
She added: “I didn't really think it would have any impact at all, because I wear dresses. But I'm glad I did. Yeah, it was fun to bring them back.”
“I think even if you lose, it's still like a fashion show when you're on the court.”
Although she would like to secure a sponsorship deal with a sportswear brand, Aiava has the advantage of not currently having a sponsor.
“I hope I get a sponsor. Maybe I'll have to put up with wearing the same thing as everyone else,” she said.
“But right now I like to choose what I want to wear and buy what I want.”
