Carlos Alcaraz says he is motivated by the success of Jannik Sinner as he aims to become the youngest player to complete a career Grand Slam at the upcoming Australian Open.
Spaniard Alcaraz (21 years old) won two titles at Wimbledon, the US Open and the French Open.
Rafael Nadal, like Alcaraz, became the youngest player in the Open Era to complete a career Grand Slam when he won the US Open in 2010.
Alcaraz, ranked third in the world, has never gone beyond the quarter-finals at Melbourne Park.
Alcaraz and Sinner, 23, shared the Grand Slam titles between them last year, but the Italian player ranks first in the world after winning eight titles.
“The good thing for me is that when I see him win titles and top the rankings, it forces me to train harder every day,” Alcaraz said.
“In practice, I just think about the things I have to improve to play against him.
“I think it's great for me, to have him, to have so much competition so far, just to give it my best every day.”
