James Fender: Ospreys close free to face Newcastle after Cardiff Reds are sent off

James Fender is free to face Newcastle in the Challenge Cup on Saturday after being handed a one-match ban for his red card in the United Rugby Championship (URC) draw against Cardiff.

Fender, 23, was shown a red card in the 38th minute by referee Ben Breakspear at Arms Park on New Year's Day for an illegal “crocodile roll” on Cardiff player Dan Thomas as he cleared the field.

The law states: “A player may remove a jacker from the tackle area by pushing or shoving him back (including grabbing the knee/leg), but may not roll, drag or twist an opponent.”
