Cameron Bancroft fractured his nose and shoulder when he collided with Sydney Thunder teammate Daniel Sams in a Big Bash League match against Perth Scorchers on Friday.
The pair also suffered concussions after a head-on collision when they collided with each other while trying to catch Perth's Optus Stadium.
Sams, a 32-year-old who has played 10 T20 matches for Australia, was taken off on a stretcher.
Pater Bancroft, who played 10 Tests and one T20 for Australia, was able to walk on the ground despite blood streaming from his nose.
Bancroft, 32, “will undergo further specialized evaluation over the next few days to determine a return date to play,” Thunder said on XN.
Bancroft and Sams were replaced by substitutes Ollie Davies and Hugh Webgen, with the Thunder going on to win by six wickets from the final ball of the match.
After five games, the Thunder sit second in the Big Bash League, behind local rivals Sydney Sixers.
